Recruiting

We contacted over 75 colleges via email to see if they would be interested in reviewing tape on Danny. The majority of the schools contacted were Division II although there were a few Division I schools as well. Of course there was only ever 1 school he really wanted to hear from.

Of the schools we sent the email to we probably sent actual game tape to 15 - 20. Several schools (including East Carolina, Georgia Tech, James Madison and William & Mary) indicated they would be interested in looking at more tape on Danny in order to determine whether they wanted to pursue him for a walk-on spot.

Danny made recruiting visits to Shenandoah, Frostburg, Salisbury, McDaniel, Shippensburg and Shepherd. The last two seemed to be his favorites and at one time I thought he might give up waiting for Maryland and take a scholarship offer he had received from Shepherd.

In March, 2006, less than a week after receiving a scholarship offer from Shepherd University, Danny received a call from Maryland Coach Ray Rychleski. Coach Rychleski told Danny that the Terps wanted to offer him a prefered walk-on position with the team. Coach Rychleski went on to explain that the preferred walk-on status meant that the Maryland coaches had seen enough of Danny in the tapes we sent them that he did not need to try out for the team - HE HAD MADE IT, HE WAS A TERP!
